The Center for Public Policy (CPP) in the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs invites applications for a Senior Research Analyst. The Senior Research Analyst engages directly with clients and potential clients to secure consulting projects. Specifically, the Senior Research Analyst works directly with consulting clients to draft project scope, create budgets, oversee project staff, conduct project deliverables, and manage project time lines. The Senior Research Analyst position focuses primarily on projects associated with program evaluation, public opinion polling, and economic impact analysis but could be asked to assist in other public policy related consulting projects.
The Senior Research Analyst performs senior consulting services for multiple, diverse, research projects; works independently while performing all aspects of each consulting project including survey development, data collection, field activities; tracks project operations and expenditures; efficiently uses project resources to meet project goals and objectives; works with various consultants across the Center for Public Policy and academic faculty; supervises project team staff; prepare all written reports of research findings; and present findings to clients and other constituency groups.
The Senior Research Analyst also conducts survey question development, statistical modeling including regression, time series, and spatial analysis in SPSS; develop public opinion polling questions, liaising with polling vendors, analyze and report poll findings; conduct fiscal impact analysis utilizing IMPLAN and other economic analysis software packages as well as utilizing various data visualization products.
This is a restricted position with renewal beyond the first year reliant upon the availability of funding.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
- Masters Degree in Public Policy or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Local or state government consulting experience, preferably with experience conducting and coordinating research based consulting projects focused on program evaluation for state, local, and community partners.
- Experience designing research projects, collecting and analyzing official and primary data, and presentation of findings.
- Experience conducting public opinion polling.
- Experience conducting economic impact analysis for local, state, federal or non-profit agencies.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so at VCU.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
- 5 or more years working with local or state government partners on research projects.
- 5 or more years' experience designing research projects, collecting and analyzing official and primary data, and presentation of findings.
- 2 or more years conducting public opinion polling for public policy.
