The department of University Health and Counseling Services at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Nurse Practitioner (HS026).

 JOB DETAILS:

The Nurse Practitioner serves the university community by providing health care to students. Actively participate in health education activities. Participates in the general development of UHCS policies, procedures, and educational materials. A primary goal is to promote and enhance successful student learning though the delivery of quality health care and education. The UHCS is an affirmative action conscious organization.  QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Nurse Practitioner, licensed or eligible for license in the State of Wisconsin.  
  • Master of Science and/or certified specialist with experience in primary care preferred.  
  • Sensitivity to development issues of young adults and willingness to function with a team approach is essential.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about gender-affirming care
  • Willingness to perform procedures or plan for competence in wound care, suturing, wart treatment, I&D, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills. 
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provision of Direct Care is the primary responsibility and not to be less than 90% in any contract year.

  • Provides advanced practice nursing care to students within the overall supervision and policy established by the Medical Supervisor. Scope includes care for minor trauma, illnesses, reproductive health care, health maintenance and health promotion for the general student population.
  • Provides care and assists in the management of health services for students with chronic illnesses and disabilities and may include an in-depth assessment and plan of care, as needed.
  • Provides care to students by obtaining and evaluating client history, performing an appropriate physical exam, and assessing and treating appropriate to level of training.
  • Provides consultation, cooperative case management and professional nursing leadership with UHCS staff.
  • Provides continuity of care to patients by coordinating health care needs through intervention, counseling and referral on and off campus.
  • Promotes health maintenance, promotion and self-advocacy by individualized teaching and providing information for self-care and behavioral change for each student as appropriate.  Identifies and responds to students at risk for serious health conditions.

Non-Direct Care not to exceed 10% in a given contract year and may vary weekly depending on the given needs.

  • Prepares and presents campus and community health programming.  Participates in the development and selection of printed materials.
  • Keeps current with new developments in nursing and health care by attending in-service programs, professional conferences, reading professional literature and participating with UHCS staff in numerous settings.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of quality care standards.
  • Participates as a member of UHCS and university committees.

Supervision received:
Medical Supervisor provides clinical supervision. Health Director provides administrative supervision.

Supervision exercised:
Clinical supervision of interns, student workers and practicum students. 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications. 

There is no on-call, weekends or holidays. Candidates would be eligible to receive paid time off and retirement benefits. This position works with a team of healthcare providers, support staff and counselors as well as various campus departments to support students in their pursuit of higher education.
