Assistant or Associate Professor of Forest Biometry-UT School of Natural Resources
The School of Natural Resources at the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, in Knoxville, Tennessee, invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Biometry (55% teaching, 45% research). The individual must be committed to excellence in teaching and have a strong interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a nationally recognized and independent research program capable of attracting graduate students and external funding in their area of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to provide statistical and modeling guidance to graduate students and faculty in the School through collaborative research.
The candidate is expected to instruct the following undergraduate courses on an annual basis: FORS 329 Forest Resource Inventory; FWF 313 Measurements and Sampling; and FWF 430 Introduction to GIS for Natural Resources. In addition, the candidate will assist with the School's capstone course, FWF 416 Planning and Management of Forest, Wildlife and Fisheries Resources, and teach either a graduate-level course associated with SNR requisites or a general statistics course for Herbert College of Agriculture majors at least once every two years.
Evidence of research productivity in forest/natural resource biometrics or other applied quantitative disciplines, such as peer-reviewed publications or other research deliverables, is required. Potential fields of research include, but are not limited to: statistics, spatial analysis of natural resources, modeling, sampling and inventory, forest or ecosystem processes, and demographic analysis of forest and wildlife populations. The candidate's expertise should be unique yet complement the School's existing teaching and research programs.
Candidates must be committed to collaborating with diverse groups within and outside of the university, including students, faculty, state and federal agencies, non-government organizations, agricultural and forest producers, natural resource groups, and other private sector entities. The successful candidate will be expected to secure extramural funding, publish in the peer-reviewed literature, advise undergraduate students, direct graduate students in research, serve on School committees, and participate in professional societies.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in biometry or a related field, obtained before the position start date.
Additional Desired Qualifications: It is preferred that candidates have at least one degree in Forestry from an SAF-accredited program. Demonstrated experience in field-based natural resource inventory practices is desired. Post-doctoral and teaching experience is also preferred.
