The Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Department (HVAC) at the University of Tennessee at Martin is currently accepting applications for the Air Conditioning Foreman I position. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30AM – 4:00 PM, but the shift is subject to change (40 hours per week). This is a full-time position with benefits.

Job Duties Include:

Operating, maintaining, and repairing the energy management system. This responsibility will obtain building occupancy schedules, determining, and setting necessary operating schedules for heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for all the campus facilities. Writing, modifying, and adjusting computer software for Direct Digital Controls.

Supervisory Duties:
Provide direct supervision of the Refrigeration Ventilation Air Conditioning Division Department. This includes creating schedules of maintenance, providing technical support, maintaining proper safety requirements, writing equipment specifications, and directing the work force. Responsible for the completion of all work validated by signing off daily. These areas include, but are not limited to, the following: electronic, and pneumatic controls systems, all air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, pumps, chillers, electrical starters and switches, piping, air duct systems, etc. Provide technical support as required to the technicians of the maintenance shops. Make calculations by use of formulas, schematics, software programs, and building prints as for diagnostics and corrections of systems in refrigeration, electronics, electrical, water and air distribution, and other related areas. Make decisions as to what purchases to make and purchase equipment within limitations as needed.

Administrative Work:
Consists of recommendations for hiring and releasing staff. Organizing and filing all equipment data records and operating logs. Checking daily employee work time sheets, to ensure time is charged in the correct area as to be billed to the responsible departments. Review and sign off on all purchases prior to invoices being paid. Organizing and filing all equipment data records and operating logs. Verbal and written correspondence between university departments and non-university affiliated companies and organizations. (E-mail, scanning, phone calls, etc.) Organizing work force by scheduling all staff time off requests as to not conflict with operations as well as approval of the time off requests. Set priority levels for heating, ventilation, air conditioning work request, failures, and operations. Assigning staff to complete task. Reviewing of capital project documents before, during and after projects.

Job Skills:
Computer skills, to include writing and modifying programs using Excel, Excel, Graphic Central Direct Digital Controls Programming, and other related software. Chiller operations and repair to include interface controls, and refrigeration circuits. HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning, and Refrigeration) design, diagnostics, and repairs of related equipment. This includes hydronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, electronic, air distribution systems. Reading and designing of building blueprints. Reading and designing of electrical and electronic schematics and prints. Communications skills, interacting and responding to other people’s needs.


Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma and six years of relevant experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.
Valid driver’s license
Experience in Commercial/Industrial Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning and Refrigeration repair and installation.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior supervision experience in heating ventilation air conditioning and refrigeration
