Less-COmmonly-Taught Languages Coordinator

Pending budgetary approval, The Less-Commonly-Taught-Languages (LCTL) Center in the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Linguistics seeks a Teaching Assistant Professor outside the tenure stream (appointment stream) to act as a Language Coordinator for the academic year of 2024-2025 (fall, spring and summer terms). The initial appointment is for one year, September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2025, with renewal possible.

Pitt’s LCTL Center has a primary goal of providing high quality instruction in over 15 languages each year. We are a dynamic environment with a commitment to community among our language instructors, and we encourage collaboration both within and across our language programs.

The appointee will have primary responsibility for supervising several LCTL programs and ensuring their success by providing curricular, logistical and mentoring support for language faculty, planning and executing events and outreach efforts, and building connections between the Center and other units at the University and beyond. The successful candidate will use problem-solving, independent thinking, and creativity to support the faculty they supervise and Center initiatives. They will participate in required University, School, and Department training.

Minimum Requirements:

  • - A master’s degree or PhD in Language Pedagogy, Linguistics, or a related field;
  • - At least two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role within a language teaching environment at the college level;
  • - At least two (2) years of experience teaching a foreign or additional language at the college level;
  • - Experience with project management and event planning;
  • - Comfort with technology and social media;
  • - Strong organizational skills;
  • - Strong communication skills in English;

Preferred:

  • - Experience working in a LCTL environment
