Laboratory Research Technician



The Rebeiz Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences seeks a laboratory research technician to work in the laboratory. The lab is focused on questions regarding the evolution of development: how do developmental processes change to derive evolutionary differences between and within species? The position will involve preparation of media, maintenance of Drosophila stocks, ordering supplies, molecular biology work, and offers opportunities to perform an independent research project.


Job Summary

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.


Essential Functions

Ordering suppliesPreparing solutions and mediaMaintaining Drosophila insect stocksCleaning/Organizing LabMonitoring compliance with University safety standardsShipping reagents


Physical Effort

Light physical effort (between 1 and 5 pounds) of lifting will occur daily. More intense effort (operating a media prep kettle and dispensing drosophila food will occur roughly once per month.
