Laboratory Research Technician I - Parkhitko Lab



The Parkhitko lab at the Aging Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time Laboratory Research Tech I position. The Laboratory Technician I will work independently in the areas of aging and metabolism, using Drosophila as a model system. This position requires significant experience in biochemical/molecular techniques such as immunofluorescence, western blots, PCR, cloning and DNA/ RNA preparation, Drosophila handling/dissections, and genetics. Prior experience in Drosophila handling/dissections, genetics, immunofluorescence, brain and thorax dissections, and confocal microscopy will be strongly considered.


Job Summary

Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.


Essential Functions

Basic scientific laboratory work at the bench space. Repetitive pipetting, Handling mice. Must have good eye to hand coordination, excellent visual acuity, and manual dexterity. Must be able to reach/stack consumables on shelves and occasionally move equipment.


Physical Effort

Must be able to move swiftly between testing rooms; be able to lift and carry 15 pounds.
