Job Description

This position is responsible for providing support and services to MU students who are military-connected and/or members of the veteran community. Work assignments typically involve assisting veterans as they adjust to the academic environment; certification of GI Bill entitlements; obtaining appropriate university, state and federal educational and eligibility for health and family support benefits; assisting with career services; and provide referrals to both internal and external resources. The ideal candidate will understand how the team integrates with others to accomplish team objectives.
  • Responsibilities include serving as staff of a central support center that provides a single point of contact for customers seeking these services.
  • Provide frontline support as part of a support center, responding to customer inquiries, researching, and resolving problems, and maintaining a statistical accounting of the provided service. Support is provided in person, online and via telephone.
Compliance Duties:
  • Must be a designated Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO) or pass the necessary training to be designated a VA SCO within 10 business days of hire.
  • Develop working knowledge of VA-Once, the VA's online portal for certifying GI Bill benefits and PeopleSoft (myZou)
  • Develop, submit and track reports required by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
  • Track and report eligibility and GPA's for Returning Heroes Act compliance.
  • Track and assist in selecting annual scholarship recipients
Serves as a team member for Department of Defense (DoD) tuition assistance, working with Office of Cashiers and Office of the University Registrar, as needed to ensure that military service members' tuition assistance is processed timely. This includes Army IgnitED and other military services' tuition assistance.

Communication and Marketing:
  • Assist with student veteran programming and events.
  • Create, maintain, and distribute internal documentation and reference material to ensure up-to-date information for staff related to various VA and University policies and procedures.
Additional Duties are as follows, but not limited to:
  • Staff student activities as required by the Director
  • Other duties as assigned.
Shift

M-F 8-5, Occasional weekend and evening hours are possible

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with students in higher education
  • Experience working with veterans' services
  • Ability to meet standards to become a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) School Certifying Official (SCO) or pass the necessary training to be designated a VA SCO within 10 business days of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet inflexible deadlines
  • Possess a working knowledge of the military, its environment and terminology
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $17.00-$19.00/hr

Grade: GGS-007
