Job Description

The Department of Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery Division is pleased to announce the opening of a position for a Nurse Practitioner - Specialty Care or Physician Assistant - Specialty Care. This individual will act as a physician extender for the collaborating surgeons in the Cardiothoracic Surgery Division.

This position will be working in various settings, including inpatient units, intensive care unit, as well as in the operating room as a first assist. The candidate will be involved in perioperative management of patient, consultations, history, and physicals for both inpatient and outpatient, discharge summaries, and patient teaching. This individual will provide care for hospitalized patients in both the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative settings. The candidate will share rotating weekend call.

Cases currently are purely cardiac, such routine CABG (both off and on pumps), valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm, dissection, vein harvesting, cardiac tumors, arrhythmia surgery, epicardia ablation, occasional ECMOs. At present time, we are not performing surgical VAD / heart transplants.

In addition, the candidate will:
• Assist in the evaluation and assessment of potential surgical candidates.
• May participate in the Missouri Telehealth Network by providing Telemedicine return clinic appointments via polycom connection.
• Assist in the identification of trends related to patients and participates in quality improvement activities.
• Help guide the development and implementation of structure, process, and outcomes standards.
• Actively participate in clinical and cardiac research, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner Specialty Care:

Education:

Master's degree is required.

Required Licensure or Certification:

Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program.

May possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), and the National Certification Corporation (NCC).

Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Missouri and must be granted “Document of Recognition” as a certified nurse practitioner from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

Experience:

For Emergency Medicine positions: A minimum of two years' experience as a nurse practitioner in an acute care area in an emergency medicine setting.

Physician Assistant Specialty Care:

Education:

Master's degree required.

Required Licensure or Certification:

Graduation from an American Medical Association (AMA) accredited physician assistant program.

May possess a specialty certificate by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Hospital Medicine, Nephrology, Orthopaedic Surgery, Pediatrics or Psychiatry. Possession of a current Missouri license to practice as a licensed Physician Assistant is required.

Experience:

For Emergency Medicine positions: A minimum of two years' experience as a physician assistant in an acute care area or completion of post-graduate PA residency/fellowship in an emergency medicine setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree is required.

Graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program. Required Licensure or Certification. Certification to function as a first assistant in the OR. May possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), and the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the State of Missouri and must be granted “Document of Recognition” as a certified nurse practitioner from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

Endoscopic Vein harvesting experience preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $90,251 - $147,285 Annually

Grade: PAT-012
