Job Description

The Division of IT Research Support Solutions “XTeam” at the University of Missouri builds, installs, & manages hardware, software, scientific applications, & security solutions for research computing needs across the campus. Researchers at the University are involved in diverse fields of study & research, requiring innovative & committed technologists with a variety of skillsets. The ITRSS LINUX System Administrator will be a part of the team that builds, installs, & manages the hardware, software, scientific applications, & security for research computing devices across campus.

This position includes the following, but not limited to, responsibilities:

34% Install, configure, & maintain Linux systems in a scientific environment for university researchers.

20% Evaluate, install, upgrade & maintain scientific software in a scientific environment for university researchers.

10% Secure & monitor systems & consult with researchers, staff & students on securing applications & systems.

15% Serve as a technical consultant for sponsored research projects that require research computing services.

10% Troubleshoot hardware/software problems & system failures.

5% Creation of documentation & training for peers, faculty, staff & students in the use of specialized computing, instrumentation, & associated scientific software.

5% Investigating new technologies of importance to research computing & researchers.

1% Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

This position is on-site in Columbia, MO, & has the potential for occasional travel to other campuses.

Shift

Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm

Minimum Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education & relevant experience is required.

• Experience installing, configuring, & maintaining Linux systems in an Academic, or Enterprise environment.

• Experience securing & monitoring Linux systems as well as consulting with end-users on properly securing applications & following proper security protocols.

• Experience troubleshooting hardware/software problems & system failures in an Academic, or Enterprise environment.

• Ability to determine & initiate appropriate & immediate actions needed to restore normal services with minimal down time. Document occurrence & actions taken. Assess operating procedures followed in resolving issues for effectiveness; may recommend modifications to standard procedures found to be inadequate, unclear, or ineffective.

• Experience with analysis, documentation, installation, testing, & evaluation of new or modified versions of campus deployed solution's hardware, operating systems, databases, & application-layer.

• Experience as a member of a highly technical & customer-service driven team.

• Ability to properly document & share knowledge/training with other staff members & forge close working relationships with IT & scientific research groups across campus.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Database management capabilities is a plus.

Experience with Application development is a plus.

Experience with networking & security/compliance is a plus.

Any experience with instrumentation, interfacing, or special technologies like DICOM, HL7, XML, API's, data transformation is a plus.

Experience in an academic research or computing setting is highly desirable.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $50,367 - $85,000 Commensurate with experience
