Job Description

This postdoctoral fellowship position is in the laboratory of Dr. Camila Manrique Acevedo, who is a clinician scientist in the Department of Medicine – Endocrinology Division and the NextGen Precision Health Institute. Competitive candidates include those who wish to pursue a career in academia and who seek to develop an independent line of research, including receiving mentorship on grant preparation and seeking independent grants during the fellowship. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research studies, including randomized clinical trials, that examine the impact of different interventions on vascular and metabolic health in subjects with insulin resistance, hypertension, and obesity. In addition, the candidate will perform experiments on cells in culture, tissues and animal models; will gather data through the use of Western blotting, microscopy, ELISAs, PCRs and other technologies.

Dr. Manrique's research program focuses on addressing sex-related inequities in cardiovascular disease and on the mechanisms responsible for the increased incidence of cardiovascular disease in insulin resistance subjects. Her laboratory performs state-of-the-art vascular and metabolic studies in both type 2 diabetic subjects and in relevant translational animal models of obesity and insulin resistance.

Qualifications

A PhD in Medicine with exercise science, vascular biology or related field is necessary by the time the appointment starts.

Candidates will be evaluated on Excellent written and oral communication skills.
