Job Description

The primary duties are abstracting low volume facility cases and review of data submitted by state-wide reporters for accuracy and consolidation of abstracts from multiple facilities into one best record. You'll get on the job training and plenty of opportunity to get your questions answered as we have quite a collaborative work culture. You would also assist with future audits and gain experience in various other aspects of central registry operations. It is a great way to grow in your professional skills!

Job Responsibilities:
  • Abstracting of LVF cases and non-hospital cases, quality control and consolidation based on current QA standards.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with reporting facilities to ensure cases are submitted in a timely manner to allow for proper inclusion into studies.
  • Assist with review of electronically submitted data for responsibility, completeness, and accuracy. Provide appropriate and timely feedback and corrections to hospitals. Utilizing RegistryPlus software, perform quality control and checks on all data
  • Provide feedback and guidance on quality issues with Quality Assurance Coordinator. Timely feedback to reporting facilities.
  • Prepare for and conduct training sessions and workshops for hospital-based registrars and other healthcare facilities reporting cancer.
  • Perform death clearance (DCO) process including follow-back review of death certificates and analysis of response rates to meet standards set forth by NAACCR and NPCR. Develop methods to decrease DCO rate to meet NAACCR Gold standards and provide feedback to facilities.
  • Other job-related duties as necessary and job development

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a health science or a related medical field or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired, is necessary.
  • Must possess current Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential from the National Cancer Registrar's Association.
  • Two or more years' experience abstracting and/or reviewing cancer data in hospital-based or central cancer registry from which an in-depth knowledge of a broad range of cancer diagnoses has been acquired.
  • Fully competent to utilize computerized word processing and spreadsheet programs, with proven experience using computerized cancer data collection software.
  • Proven communication and persuasion skills needed to successfully interact with medical professionals and researchers to gain their active support and completion of needed records and information requests.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated Salary Range: $19.15 - $30.23 per hour

The Missouri Cancer Registry and Research Center (MCR) home of the Missouri Cancer Registry — Missouri's state-mandated central cancer registry — is located on the campus of the University of Missouri and housed within the Department of Public Health in the College of Health Sciences. MCR is a collaborative partnership between the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and the University of Missouri.
