Facilities Management at the University of Maryland College Park seeks a Cross Functional Technical Specialist to support the Central Control Monitor Systems (CCMS) automation of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems across campus.

HVAC Specialist, Position Number 122930

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and calibration of sensors, transmitters, and metering devices connected to the campus Building Automation System (BAS).
  2. Setup and troubleshooting of IP network routers, switches, and controllers.
  3. Services primarily focusing on air distribution systems utilizing electric and electronic Direct Digital Control (DDC) controls (Distech/Tridium, Automated Logic Controls) across various configurations.
  4. Diagnosing and maintaining variable frequency drive applications on pumps, fans, and cooling towers.
  5. Performing design modifications, enhancements, recommissions, and repairs of HVAC systems and components.
  6. Serving as an expert mechanic and primary HVAC contact for researchers, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, technical, IT-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Without a bachelor’s degree, eight (8) years' experience performing similar duties is required. With a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of four (4) years’ experience performing duties as described above.
  2. Specific knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems installation, repair, and maintenance, including DDC controls (Distech, Tridium, and ALC).
  3. Valid Maryland Class C driver’s license with fewer than six (6) points.
  4. Experience integrating Third party systems into BAS controls, developing and implementing energy management efficiencies, supervising contractors or staff. Certifications in ALC, Tridium AX/N4, and/or Distech GFX are preferred.

This role requires both technical expertise in HVAC systems and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
