Job Description Summary:
Collaborate effectively with the Residency Program Director (PD), any other Associate Program Directors, and Program Coordinators to assure the success of the program and provide excellent education for the residents. This position description addresses only those responsibilities specific to the Associate Program Director (APD) role and no other clinical and/or administrative responsibilities the APD might have. The position will be 0.25 FTE.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:
  • MD/DO Degree
  • Kansas Licensure
  • Board certified in Pediatrics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical practice
  • A clinical practice that includes working with KU-W pediatric residents
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of residents and medical students
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collegially within diverse environments and with a diverse group of people


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Significant leadership and/or administrative experience in Graduate Medical Education
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scholarly activity as defined by the Accreditation Committee of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)


Job Duties Outlined:
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain positive collaborative professional relationships with the diverse groups of critical GME stakeholders, including but not limited to: Residents, faculty, department administration, community partners and campus GME partners
  • Plan and assure success of resident didactics
  • Support resident growth and well-being through being a formal and informal advisor/mentor.
  • Participate in continuous improvement in structural and educational aspects of the program to address updates in ACGME requirements, department and institutional changes, and resident needs
  • Participate in recruitment of applicants for residency
  • Assist with rotation scheduling
  • Provide coverage of PD duties when the PD is not available
  • Participate on the Clinical Competency Committee
  • Mentor and support chief residents in their duties
  • Participate on a sub-committee of the Kansas University School of Medicine - Wichita Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC)
  • Act as residency program liaison on the Kansas American Academy of Pediatric Program Board of Directors.
