Job Description Summary:
This position offers a unique opportunity to join the leadership team of the first genetic counseling program in the state of Kansas. The Master's degree program in Genetic Counseling at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC), located in the greater Kansas City area, is housed in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) in the School of Health Professions (SHP) with strong department support, collaborative opportunities for teaching and research and an enthusiastic and collegial work environment.

The Program invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor. In collaboration with the Program Director, the Clinical Assistant Professor is responsible for oversight and management of recruitment and admissions processes and activities for the program, engagement with prospective students and alumni, participating in research related elements of the program and contributing to the integration of knowledge, skills, experience and professional ethics into the practice of genetic counseling for students through course instruction and student mentoring. This faculty position is 1.0 FTE with .5 FTE dedicated to the genetic counseling program and .5 FTE in a clinical role with a target start date of July 1, 2024.

Job Description:

Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications

Education/Certification:
  • Masters degree
  • Board certification in respective field, if applicable

Work Experience:
  • 3 years of experience in their field
  • Experience with the profession of genetic counseling and related subjects
  • Experience with the leadership roles assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree from an accredited Genetic counseling program

Work Experience:
  • Experience in working with a genetic counseling program
  • Familiarity with the Standards for Accreditation for Graduate Programs in Genetic Counseling
  • Experience in teaching, research, and administration

Skills:
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work comfortably with a diverse faculty, workforce, student body and community partners


Principal Responsibilities
  • Providing program coordination and instructional planning.
  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating clinical or instructional aspects of the curriculum.
  • Providing course instruction.
  • Mentoring of students.
  • Contributing to administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Oversight of admissions outreach committees.
  • Maintenance and updating as needed of Admissions processes (application and interview rubrics, procedures etc.).
  • Maintenance and updating as needed of recruitment plan and efforts.
  • Incorporation of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice into Recruitment and Admissions
  • Aiding Program Coordinator with coordination of open houses and recruitment opportunities.
  • Planning, organizing and leading major program events (New Student Orientation, Graduation, etc.).
  • Conducting, reviewing, and implementing feedback from exit interviews and alumni surveys
  • Participating in all research related elements of the program including oversight of policies, course instruction, development of projects and serving as an advisor/member of research committees
  • Aiding Information Resource Specialist in maintenance and updating of program website
  • Aiding Program Coordinator in creating and approving social media content.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
