  • THE POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) provides expertise and leadership at the University of Maryland around equity, diversity, and inclusion work. The following units are within ODI: ADA/504 Compliance, Bias Incident & Support Services (BISS), Diversity Training & Education, LGBTQ+ Equity Center, Nyumburu Cultural Center, Office of Civil Rights & Sexual Misconduct, Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE), and TerrapinSTRONG.

 

The LGBTQ+ Equity Center serves LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff. The center is committed to prioritizing minoritized voices in LGBTQ+ communities.

 

The program manager will plan and execute the center’s external and internal community-building programs/events, and will ensure that programs are intersectional and inclusive of minoritized LGBTQ+ identities across race, gender, sexuality, ability and other identities. This position will hire, train, and supervise graduate and undergraduate students. The program manager will provide mentorship to student leaders who utilize the center for group meetings and campus initiatives. The position will collaborate with campus partners to host LGBTQ+ related programming in the center and across campus. The program manager will develop and manage the office’s outreach and communications efforts to increase awareness of and engagement with the center’s programs, events, and mission. This position will serve as a representative for ODI and LGBTQ+ Equity Center on committees, at meetings and events. This position reports to the associate director.

 

  • QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors in leadership, LGBT studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality studies or another field of study; and five (5) years of experience in project/program management in an educational setting. Successfully demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

OR

 

Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, LGBT Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, or another relevant field of study; and three (3) years of experience in project/program management in an educational setting. Successfully demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Can successfully demonstrate experience building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge about LGBTQ+ populations, intersecting oppression within LGBTQ+ communities, and solidarity with other minoritized groups.
  • Ability to develop, execute, assess/evaluate programs and events that meet the needs of LGBTQ+ campus communities.
  • Knowledge of communications and marketing strategy.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize numerous detailed tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter, capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with marginalized communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills providing mentorship and working with students.
  • Ability to learn quickly and use learning computer technology, such as Microsoft Office suite, G Suite, other productivity software, and various social media platforms.
  • Ability to lead teams and/or committees.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion, tact, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with a wide diversity of stakeholders (internal and external).

  • University experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with intersectional LGBTQ+ populations.
  • Passion for supporting marginalized and historically underrepresented student populations and community members.
  • Time and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and work with deadlines.

 

  • COMPENSATION & ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Salary range for this position is low to mid $70s and commensurate with experience. Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position. During the interview process, finalist may be provided a prompt to prepare and present using presentation to attendees; finalist may also be asked to meet with various stakeholders.
