VP, Controller
JOB SUMMARY
This position supervises and assists the accounting staff to ensure accurate financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
May include any and/or all of the following:
- Develop effective employees through training, coaching, evaluation, motivating, and goal-setting.
- Perform financial analysis and problem-solving research for Senior Management and staff.
- Oversee and perform selected account reconciliations.
- Oversee preparation of annual budget.
- Oversee accounts payable function.
- Prepare and review financial statements.
- Oversee accounting function to ensure that financial records are accurate and complete.
- Assist internal and external Auditors and Examiners.
- Assist in the monthly closing process in Symitar and ProfitStar.
10. Provide the appropriate reports such as Call report, for external organizations (e.g. NCUA).
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge of:
- Modern office equipment and ten-key
- Credit Union operations, procedures, products, services, philosophies, practices, and systems
- Accounting procedures and GAAP accounting policies and standards
- Technology and various software programs
- Ability to:
- Read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form
- Organize and prioritize in order to meet deadlines
- Solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations
- Write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before members and employees
- Self direct with the initiative and drive necessary to activate a project from conception through completion
- Effectively develop, motivate, guide, and evaluate staff
- Skill in:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with members and co-employees
- Typing and personal computer
QUALIFICATIONS
Critical Development Experiences:
Pursue opportunities for professional growth and development through training, education and self-study
Successfully complete all applicable compliance training and testing
Education and experience equivalent to:
Advanced knowledge with Accounting software required
Experience with ALM modeling software strongly preferred
A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics with relevant prior work experience
A CPA or MBA is preferred
REQUIREMENTS
Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for a significant period of time and perform functions that require manual dexterity. The employee must occasionally reach above or below normal body position, stoop or bend, and carry, lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. A normal range of hearing, vision, and speech are required to effectively work with co-employees and members.
