Job Objective

 

To prepare tooling for manufacturing.  To repair and maintain tooling to facilitate quality manufacturing and minimize machine downtime.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Completes tooling set ups, changeovers and preventative maintenance to ensure all tools are properly prepared for production.

 

  1. Overhauls, repairs, and reassembles molds and dies to meet production standards and established tolerances.
  2. Completes repair and adjustment of Die Casting and Stamping tooling in active production environments as required to reduce production down time.

 

  1. Interprets drawings and maintains tool fixtures to facilitate assembly, machining, and other production operations.

 

  1. Troubleshoots die or mold breakdowns in a manner which will restore production as quickly as possible.

 

  1. Modifies various fixtures and inspects completed work carefully to make sure fixtures function properly in production.

 

  1. Inspects and restores mold surface finish by polishing to specific industry standards on Stamping, Die Casting and Plastic Injection tooling.

 

  1. Employs an extensive variety of hand tools and precision measuring instruments, such as hammers, wrenches, impact wrenches, hand grinders, calipers, micrometers, gauge blocks, gauge pins, height gauge, hardness tester and microscope.

 

  1. Performs heli-arc (TIG) welding.

 

  1. Maintains up-to-date changeover work instruction data for all tooling.

 

  1. Performs special machining in repairing parts as required.

 

  1. Keeps accurate time and job records.

 

  1. Maintain work area in a cleared and orderly condition to minimize safety hazards and lost-time accidents.

 

  1. Follows established safety procedures and policies at all times.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

  1. Maintains good work attendance.

 

  1. This position supports the continual improvement and compliance of QMS and EMS.

Skills, Abilities and Experience Required

 

Fork truck operations certification.

 

Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, TriMark Tooling Database, TriMark Tooling Request Database, TriMark Changeover Database, JobBoss Software, Windchill CAD Database, Creo View, Fastlook and JD Edwards Software,

 

Considerable experience as a Machinist, with emphasis on Tool and Die operations.

 

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

 

Working knowledge of molds, dies and fixtures and the machines on which they are used.

 

Ability to set up and operate all basic machine tools and use machinist’s tools.

 

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

 

Ability to work cooperatively on a regular basis with other employees.

 

Judgment Required

 

To evaluate causes of breakdown or malfunction and make required repairs in a minimum of time.

 

To determine the best machining method and material for maintaining molds.

 

To check completed work for quality and appearance.

Working Conditions

 

Must be available to work overtime and weekends as required to meet the company’s business demands.

 

Conditions generally good with some exposure to hazards of machine operations.  There is some contact with oils, lubricants and solvents necessary to the work involved.  Occasional graphite powder and metal particles are present due to the machining process.  The work area is dry with normal temperatures.  The noise level is 80-90.

 

Uniform safety practices consist of safety shoes, safety glasses, and other devices as required.  This area requires normal or corrected vision, normal depth perception and peripheral vision of 180 degrees and no color deficiency.  Hearing protection is not required but is available.
