Seeking an ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST

Description: Under the Supervision of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Sec. of Interior Affairs, and the Office of Environmental Services Director and the Environmental Specialist II (ESII); the Environmental Specialist I (ESI), will conduct water quality site collections throughout the MCN Reservation for Tribal Water Quality Protection and conduct Environmental Reviews and Environmental testing for the MCN Department of Housing. The ESI will also provide technical and administrative support to the Director and ESII on various departmental programs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Must be able to read & locate legal descriptions and plat sites using tribal, state, county, city, USGS topo, and FEMA flood maps. 2. Inspection of sites for Environmental issues including flood plains, railroads, noise levels, soils, water pollution, and oil well activities. 3. Ability to conduct, interpret and review environmental assessments and other environmental documents under NEPA regulations, and NAHASDA implementing regulations (24 CFR Part 1000).
  2. Knowledge of the Federal regulations concerning the Residential Lead

Based Paint Hazard Reductions Act. Be able to obtain an ODEQ Certification as a Lead Based Paint Inspector and Risk Assessor. 5. Prepare and submit reports on all sites inspected. 6. Be able to take water samples in creeks, rivers, and other bodies of water throughout the MCN Reservation. 7. Be able to operate water equipment and conduct water quality sampling for laboratory analysis. 8. Be able to take soil samples and conduct Mold, Methamphetamine, and Asbestos investigations when necessary. 9. Be able to maintain field and lab equipment in good working order. 10. Implement environmental projects as obligated in USEPA and HUD (NAHASDA) grant applications. 11. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in written format. Must be computer literate. 12. Perform routine daily inspections and maintenance on assigned vehicles. 13. Perform other duties as required, other duties may include assignments not in job classification.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates Degree from a two-year college or university and a minimum of 1 year of related work experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science related field and 1 to 3 years of work with the USEPA, ODEQ, or other related governmental/Tribal agency.
