Supply Chain Lead
Sappi North America is a division of Sappi Limited, a global company headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, with manufacturing operations on four continents in nine countries with sales offices in 50 countries. The Cloquet Mill, located on the banks of the St. Louis River, produces some of the highest quality heavyweight web and sheet fed products in the world. The original mill opened in 1898 and has undergone a variety of changes and improvements over the years, most-recently (2013) to convert the pulp mill into a producer of Verve, a dissolving wood pulp used primarily for the textile markets. With the conversion, the pulp mill is now able to swing between dissolving wood pulp and Kraft pulp based on market needs. With a focus on responsible and sustainable operations, the Cloquet Mill is focused on energy savings improvements which have led to local, state, and national environmental recognition.

Overview
This role coordinates all tactical functions of the Sappi North America Mill Operations Planning Teams to optimize machine efficiency while maximizing profitability. The position will provide lead supervision to the Mill Operations Planning Team. The position reports directly to the Mill Supply Chain Manager and will backfill for this position as conditions warrant. This position will closely collaborate with Logistics to ensure customer order fulfillment and delivery while minimizing costs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the success of our customer order fulfillment system utilizing MICS (MES) by balancing customer demand through two Paper Machines and the dependent downstream production resources.
- Optimize paper machine throughput, resource utilization, and overall Mill Production through master production scheduling, detail planning, and both internal and external converting operations.
- Optimize and adapt dynamic production schedules utilizing available resources in the mill.
- Coordinate the planning of production runs with distribution requirements plan and Logistics reducing cycle time and minimizing costs.
- Maintain regular communication with all members of Inside Sales, Mill Operations, South Portland Operations, Planning & Production groups including routine and ad hoc conference calls and/or production meetings as needed.
- Provide leadership, allocation of resources, and development concerning all Supply Chain employees in the mill.
- Trim management and optimization of all production runs for minimum total system waste.
- Supervise the order delay process ensuring that previously made customer commitments are maintained and supported.
- Supervise the order over/under process ensuring that previously made customer commitments are maintained and supported.
- Maintain inventory control (WIP) and optimization.
- Coordination of mill direct programs to improve service while reducing costs.
- Participate in various mill and supply chain management projects.
- Work with business process engineers to improve or enhance order fulfillment process – MICS or other mill systems.
- Support and participate in all Mill Safety programs and activities required.
Additional less frequent responsibilities
- Backfill for the mill supply chain manager as needed.
- Travel to customers, converters, and other SNA locations.
Special Skills including license certification
- APICS supply chain certification encouraged (or ability to obtain)
- Experience in supply chain management and/or master production scheduling
- Paper Industry experience a plus
- Methodical problem-solving ability
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Solid personal computer skills including proficiency in MS Excel
- Proven experience in data analysis, report generation, and KPI development
- Knowledge and experience with MICS and/or SAP preferred
- Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills (including written & presentations)
- Demonstrated ability or intrinsic desire to effectively lead and develop an Operations Planning Team
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and conflicting priorities with confidence and speed

- Participate in call rotation with 24/7 availability
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- Master’s degree (MBA) encouraged
- Minimum of 5 years experience required
