Job Summary:
General Summary: Primary duty is to enforce the laws of the state of Oklahoma and the rules and regulations of OSUIT. The Sergeant will be assigned as the primary investigator on all minor and major crimes committed on the property of OSUIT. The Sergeant is the primary evidence/property officer of the police department and the custodian of the evidence room. The Sergeant will be responsible for the scheduling of the department's duty roster and may be required to work any shift on occasion as required, insuring that all shifts are covered. The Sergeant will be required to be available to assist in the writing and execution of search warrants.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
•Operates as the lead investigator of the department.
•As the primary investigator the Sergeant will be responsible for the writing, execution, and return of all search warrants resulting in an investigation conducted by him or her.
•Conducts interviews and interrogations of suspects.
•Acts as the training coordinator for the police department.
•Conducts training for university staff, faculty and students.
•Occasionally perform patrol duties when necessary.
•Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
•Associate degree in Criminal Justice or related field from an accredited college or university highly preferred.
•Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
•Five years' documented experience as a peace officer in a university setting.
•Supervisory experience preferred.
•Must be at least 21 years of age.
•Must have good reputable character with no criminal record.
•Must have good driving record.
•Must be able to pass the OLERS physical examination.
•Perform administrative duties for university police (periodic reporting requirements).
•Collect and interpret crime statistics and crime data.
•Must have full sensory perception, mental ability, physical capability and psychomotor skills.
•Current computer skills to include MS applications and database systems.
•Good oral and written communication skills.
•Good organizational ability.
•Ability to communicate effectively (and publicly) with a positive attitude.
•Excellent listening skills and customer responsiveness are essential.
•Advanced law enforcement certification by Council on Law Enforcement and Training (CLEET).
•Basic Instructor certification (CLEET) recommended.
•Valid Oklahoma driver's license.
•NIMS (Homeland Security).
•CPR and Emergency Management training.
•Must meet annual training/qualification standards for firearms as well as CLEET continuing education hours.
•Must be available for shift work and mandatory overtime.
•Must be available for on-call 24/7.
•Ability to work during inclement weather.
•Travel may be required.
•Exposure to physical danger may occur in the course of duty.
