LPN
The L.P.N. hired will perform work assigned by R.N. Case Manager and Health and Wellness Division Leader consistent with prevention of diabetes, promoting improved diabetic care, as well as, promoting community health of our Native American people. He/She will perform the duties of an L.P.N. under the guidance of the Oklahoma Nurse Practice Act.
Qualifications
Must have completed an accredited L.P.N. program and have obtained a current, unrestricted nursing license from the state of Oklahoma
Knowledge of and ability to apply principles of growth and development, maturation and socialization in providing care appropriate to the age of patients served
Knowledge of human body structure, function, illnesses and/or disease entities, and skill sufficient to communicate with nurses, patients, family members and clinic staff
Knowledge and skill sufficient to observe and reliably report the physical and emotional changes for inclusion in the patient's care plan
Knowledge of adult vaccine schedules
Knowledge of and ability to teach measures aimed at disease prevention and health promotion such as diabetes, obesity control, anti-smoking, safety habits, etc.
Knowledge and skill sufficient to respond to emergency situations such as cardiopulmonary arrest
Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation
Prefer someone with a lot of energy and self-motivation, which is able to work with minimal direction
Requires considerable walking, recurring bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing and pulling, often in excess of 50 pounds
Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
Requires a high level of problem solving skills
Must maintain confidentiality at all times
Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
Other office experience is helpful
Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
Must be able to pass a criminal background check
Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
Duties & Responsibilities
Organizes daily work procedures
Performs detailed office procedures
Fills in for Case Manager/Program Coordinator when needed
Creates correspondence and other written documents and compile data for reports with deadlines
General clinical nursing duties (ie. Injection, assessment, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, and individual teaching)
Possess and maintains "up-to-date" knowledge of Diabetes and Community health issues
Teach some organized groups
Plans and scheduled organized health education classes and events
Operates within a strict budget
Assists with updating of client charts and recognizes needed education
Works directed with other Health-related staff in recognizing and providing needed health education topics
Recognizes and maintains confidentiality of work materials as appropriate
Assures that patients are seen in proper order with recognition that emergencies must be handled without delay and patients must not be unduly exposed to contagious diseases
May perform limited procedures such as venipuncture, EKG's, fasting blood sugars, etc.
Follows physicians orders to patient regarding medications and home care
Carries out necessary measures for a clean, safe area
Enters vaccines administered into the electronic health records
Participates in continuing education and staff meetings
Must take at least 6 continuing education units per year
Other duties as assigned by the Case Manager/Program Coordinator
