Job Summary:
The Production Plant Engineer will oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of our new production facility. This individual will be assigned to the design team through construction and commissioning and then will report to the Plant Manager. The Production Plant Engineer will oversee the design and construction phases of the project. They will work closely with the Engineering team as well as the Onsite construction teams during design and commissioning of the facility. They must ensure the facility complies with relevant regulations and conduct regular checkups to verify the machinery and operations are safe. They also develop operational plans for projects including renovation, construction, maintenance, and machine installation. The Production Plant Engineer is detail oriented and able to lead a team of mechanical and electrical engineers as well as maintenance supervisors and technicians. The Production Plant Engineer will also work closely as a valued partner to other leaders and employees throughout the organization. The Production Plant Engineer is dedicated to achieving operational excellence with a genuine interest in helping the company succeed through continuous improvement strategies, professional communication and paying close attention to company goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. The position is designed to be a first shift, salary position, though the work schedule may require occasional flexibility to accommodate variations in workload and production requirements on evenings and weekends.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to ensure effective design, construction, installation, and commission of new or existing production facilities including electrical and mechanical equipment.
- Oversees team of electrical and mechanical engineers, and maintenance personnel, ensuring proper focus on safety, efficiency, and teamwork.
- Oversees the daily workflow of electrical and mechanical engineers, and maintenance personnel, ensuring equipment and processes are properly designed, installed, and maintained.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations and performance feedback to direct reports in accordance with company review schedule and process.
- Communicates with Plant Manager on matters of efficiency, “down-time”, “bottleneck” issues, as well as, partnering with Human Resources on matters of discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy and employment laws.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Ensures all safety and employee protection protocols and laws are adhered to, creating a positive employee “safety first” culture.
- Has full engineering responsibility for their respective facility after commissioning is complete.
- Oversees the electrical and mechanical systems of the manufacturing plant, from design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Focuses on improving the plant’s production efficiency, upgrades to new technologies, equipment maintenance and repair, as well as minimizing manufacturing issues including “bottlenecks”, and “down-time”.
- Conducts routine tests, evaluates plant machinery, and fixes problems promptly.
- Utilizes operational plans to ensure machinery and processes meet compliance regulations.
- Designs and reviews project plans and interprets developments throughout the process, giving advice and guidance for necessary changes.
- Applies lean manufacturing principles to specify and validate world-class manufacturing processes to achieve organizational goals.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Demonstrates problem solving skills in production facility settings.
- Experience with managing and reporting budgets and schedules.
- Previous leadership experience required.
- Previous experience with Air Quality, Water Quality a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

- Proven ability to meet deadlines and maintain close attention to details.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Process, Production, Mechanical or Mining Engineering.
- 15+ years’ experience in equipment design, facility engineering and/or plant operation.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Professional certifications including electrician license, equipment operator license or MSHA / OSHA safety training a plus.

- Frequent use of hands including tactile finger manipulation, gripping, and tool manipulation.
- Ability to talk, hear, identify, and relay communication verbally.
- Frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time at a workstation on a computer or similar device. Occasional extended periods of standing, bending, and kneeling.
- Must be able to work in loud areas and compression with appropriate personal protective equipment (Example: ear protection).
- Must be able to work with chemicals, oils, grease and dust, and utilize personal protective equipment as required. (Examples: aprons, glasses, gloves etc.).
- Must be able to learn, teach and demonstrate proper mechanical equipment operation and certification (Example: forklift, oven, CNC, sander, etc.).
Compensation and Benefits
- Full-Time Salaried (Exempt) position starting at $100,000/annually. Pay will be commensurate with experience.
