POSITION DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS: The municipality is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Judge of the Mansfield Municipal Court. The Municipal Court serves as a Joint Municipal Court with Southampton and Springfield Townships. Candidates should have prior experience as a municipal court judge and be familiar with the processes and procedures for the disposition of matters in the Municipal Court pursuant to the Rules Governing Practice in the Municipal Courts, 7:1 through 7:14-5. It is anticipated the Judge will conduct one session per week with all virtual sessions to occur on Thursdays and in person trials and proceedings on Thursday of each week. It is anticipated that the Judge will be appointed at the December 15, 2021 Mansfield Township Committee meeting. Due to the resignation of the current Judge, effective December 31, 2021, the term of the new Municipal Court Judge will be effective on January 1, 2022 and the new Judge will assume the position with all responsibilities as of that date. The Judge will also be required to handle such administrative matters as may be required pursuant to the Rules of Court and procedures instituted by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts. Candidates must meet the requirements as set forth in N.J.S.A. 2B:12-4 and 12-5. The Judge must attend all training programs required by the State Administrative Office of the Courts, and all training programs as required by the vicinage. The Judge will be required to be on call 24 hours a day/7 days a week to handle probable cause/warrant decisions, Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO's) and other like matters. The Judge will be a contracted employee of the Municipality pursuant to the terms of a written contract. In accordance with this arrangement, the successful candidate will be permitted to maintain a private law practice, provided that such practice does not conflict with the Judge's duties and responsibilities to the Municipal Court.
