The Department of Biological and Health Sciences at Texas A&M University–Kingsville invites applications for a nine-month appointment for Assistant Professor of Practice, beginning Fall 2024. The faculty member will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses for the Human Nutrition program, serving as the Director of the Dietetic Internship, and maintaining the program’s accreditation status with Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Academic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure operational excellence for the dietetics programs consistent with the University policies, procedures, and processes in collaboration with key faculty and staff.
  • Teach applied or didactic courses related to the nutrition and dietetics curriculum.
  • Academic advising and mentorship to currently matriculated students in the nutrition and dietetics program.
  • Recruit prospective dietetic students in collaboration with ACEND, professional networks, and Texas A&M University Kingsville departments.
  • Work with colleagues to enhance and improve existing programs and develop new academic ones, as applicable.
  • Serve on University, school, departmental and other academic unit committees.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

Promote high standards of academic achievement and integrity in assigned courses. Teach applied or didactic courses related to the Human Nutrition undergraduate/graduate curriculum. Conduct academic advising and mentorship to current students in the Human Nutrition undergraduate and Dietetic Internship program. Serve as Director for the ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship program. Establish and maintain relationships with preceptors at facilities in support of the Dietetic Internship program. Maintain accreditation status with Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Serve on University, College, and Departmental committees.

Required Qualifications:

Applicant should be a Registered Dietician (R.D.) and must have completed at least 18 graduate hours in the discipline of study. They should also be eligible to fill the role of Director of the Dietetic Internship role as outlined by ACEND.  Skills and commitment to providing high-quality education within a culturally diverse environment are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

The Department supports a wide variety of research and teaching scholars and has a strong interest in growing the Human Nutrition program. The candidate will be expected to 1) manage the Dietetic Internship program and 2) teach lower-level, upper-level, or graduate human nutrition courses. Experience with building and managing internship programs, writing grant proposals, and recruiting students will be considered additional assets. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
