Description

The Colby College Department of Music invites applications for a one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor position in technology-based music and composition for the 2024-25 academic year. The successful candidate will join an active and highly collaborative department and will have responsibilities that will include:

1. Teaching a first-semester music theory course (MU181).

2. Teaching Introduction to Music Theory through Digital Audio Workstation (MU153).

3. Teaching a Composition Seminar for students with at least one semester of music theory (MU345).

4. Offering an elective of the candidate's choice in technology-based composition.

All courses need to be suitable for both majors and non-majors.

Qualifications

The search committee is especially interested in candidates who have a record of previous college teaching, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the campus community, have the ability to offer an elective that has wide appeal to students in a liberal arts environment, and have an interdisciplinary approach. Experience with basic audio equipment and with programming geared toward music composition is expected, as the successful candidate would supervise music-related activities in the Arts Incubator (interdisciplinary technology lab).

Completed Ph.D., D.M.A, or ABD preferred.
