Waste Water Maintenance Technician I (Full-time; Non-Exempt)

Job Summary:
The Waste Water Maintenance Technician oversees and performs a variety of skilled work in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of city electrical/mechanical systems, and performs related work as required. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utility Superintendent and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

$15.50 - $19.00 depending upon qualifications and experience

Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.; 40 hours per week; flexibility required for occasional Saturday or Sunday, or on-call hours
Essential Functions
• Perform mechanical and electrical work responsibilities
• Clean, adjust, lubricate and/or replace worn or defective parts, install electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical equipment and devices
• Perform maintenance inspections utilizing standard troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques to identify defective or malfunctioning equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repair of assigned vehicle, tools, and equipment
• Maintain and ensure adequate inventory of spare and replacement parts are available for required repairs and maintenance
• Ensure appearance and security of grounds surrounding lift stations, control vaults, water storage tanks and booster pump station is maintained
• Assist Wastewater Treatment Plant with laboratory analysis, sludge management, and maintaining facility grounds and building
• Operate large motor vehicle on City business
• Respond to customer concerns and requests in a timely and efficient manner
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and/or Education -
• High school graduate or GED equivalent
• Must be SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) certifiable
• One year experience in electrical and mechanical industrial maintenance
Preferred Education, Experience and Certifications:
• One year of college or technical training in electronics, electrical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Class "A" Commercial Driver License
• Class "C" ODEQ laboratory certification
• Class "D" ODEQ water and wastewater certification
• Class "C" ODEQ water and wastewater certification, or ability to obtain within one year of employment
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Work will frequently be exposed to outdoor elements, and may include extreme temperatures, hot and cold, and wet and/or humid conditions. The work environment may include exposure to drafts, loud noise, dust, grease, and occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, raw sewage and risk of electrical shock. Work may occasionally take place in high, precarious places, confined spaces or open trenches.
Tasks require ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, work in low light conditions, and typically involve some combination of walking, sitting, or standing for extended periods of time, balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, and mental and visual acuity.
