Job Summary

The Parks Laborer helps in the mission of the Parks Department to plan, secure, develop and maintain recreational amenities to provide a positive experience for Owasso’s citizens and visitors. Responsibilities include general maintenance, cleanliness and beautification of the City parks and facilities. A majority of the work performed is in vegetation control which includes mowing and operating a weed-trimmer approximately 75% of the time. Additional duties include maintenance of safe trails and playground equipment, maintaining park restrooms, and replacement and planting of shrubs, trees, and flowers. As well as working events.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Salary, Benefits, and Work Schedule

Salary: 

$14.50 per hour

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week, evenings and weekends may be required

 

Essential Functions

May include but not limited to:

  • Operate lawn care equipment, i.e. mower, weed-eater, edger, blower, hand tools
  • Assist in horticultural management and upkeep of vegetation such as trees, shrubs and garden areas
  • Maintain cleanliness of grounds by removal of litter and other debris
  • Maintain cleanliness of restroom facilities
  • Working evenings or weekends for events.
  • Provide professional, courteous service at all times to citizens of the City of Owasso
  • Be alert for conditions or situations that need attention in the maintenance of Redbud District and other areas, and make recommendations for solutions
  • Operate City vehicles

 

Position Requirements

Minimum Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

 

Preferred Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience in operating and maintaining small construction equipment
  • Horticulture knowledge and experience in maintaining horticulture and irrigation

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Work will be performed mostly outdoors in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, hot and cold, and wet and/or humid conditions. The work environment may include exposure to drafts, noise, dust, grease, and traffic.

Tasks require ability to lift/push/pull/ and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally more than 50 pounds with mechanical or manual assistance, and typically involve some combination of walking, sitting, or standing for extended periods of time, walking, balancing, climbing, bending, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, and mental and visual acuity.
