JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, plans, develops and implements the City's economic development efforts.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serves as primary point of contact for all of the City's Economic Development inquiries and opportunities.
Develops and implements an overall strategy to best position the City to be a great place to do business by promoting the City's assets and determining best economic development practices for implementation by the City.
Previous experience negotiating complex agreements and transactions.
Addresses citizens' complaints and requests for information regarding economic development.
Develops and maintains contacts with representatives of the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce and the Broken Arrow Economic Development Corporation.
Functions as the sole point of contact between the Chamber of Commerce and City Staff.
Researches and provides recommendations on economic development and redevelopment opportunities and projects. Evaluates local resources, needs, goals and opportunities and aggressively promotes the City.
Serves as City ombudsman for development problems and works with multiple department directors when projects overlap departments.
Makes presentations to the City Council, City Staff and various groups outside the organization.
Trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a Bachelor's Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, supplemented by three to five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Knowledge of the theory, principals, and practices of community economic development.
Knowledge of planning and zoning, demographics, economic trends, and impacts related to community development.
Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.
Skill to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, orally and in written form.
Skill to apply attention to detail.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in sedentary work, typically involving some combination of balancing, feeling, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking, and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation
