Payroll Accountant
HYBRID 3 days in office 2 days work from home
- Process bi-weekly payroll using established verifications to ensure accuracy, strong internal controls and best practices.
- Perform bi-weekly updates to payroll tax schedule, general ledger journal entries and associated balance sheet and expense verifications and reconciliations.
- Submit bi-weekly payment requests for wage related deductions, i.e., garnishments, 401k deferrals.
- Submit bi-weekly HS/EHS (Head Start/Early Head Start) payment request.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Develop and maintain a solid understanding and competency in running and preparing reports in Paycor as needed for ongoing payroll tracking, year - end reporting, and annual auditing needs.
- Collaborate with People & Culture to address system changes related to payroll processing as well as support for human resource elements of HRIS.
- Work with People & Culture to reconcile and process benefit vendor payment
- Work with Finance/Grant's Management Team and Development Department to ensure accurate identification of non-public funding supporting personnel costs.
- Update labor allocations in HRIS as needed based on beginning and ending dates of funding within our fiscal year.
- Work in the month-end closing process to ensure accuracy of cost allocations.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
- At least 5 years of related experience resulting in an understanding of traditional payroll elements and fiscal procedures to ensure accuracy and verifiability.
- Knowledge of strong internal controls and best practices.
- Experience in financial statement preparation.
- Strong working knowledge of current applicable payroll tax and wage laws and practices.
- Strong knowledge of payroll software required, Paycor experience preferred.
- Experience with labor allocations in a grant environment is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to use technology and systems effectively to support daily activities including a demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and aptitude to learn new systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, address shifting priorities, exercise independent judgment, and accomplish assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
