Position Overview

The Operations Intern will assist the Assistant Director of Operations support the Operations, Facilities, and Events areas based on the BUBeWell experience framework for the Office of Recreation & Wellness and assist with efforts for the department of Health & Recreation. This position will help with oversight of the Operations staff, reservations within the Health and Recreation Complex, and with the partnership with facilities. This position will help with the development, scheduling, and growth of about 40-45 part-time student employees. This position will strive to assist the Office of Recreation & Wellness foster an inclusive environment that seeks to serve a diverse campus community through actively developing and implementing strategies and programs to engage under-represented populations. This position directly reports to the Assistant Director of Operations.

This is a part-time position with a tentative start date of August 2024.

The Office of Recreation & Wellness creates a foundation of well-being by providing exceptional, inclusive, and innovative programs, services, and facilities for the Butler community to enhance the student experience.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, development, and evaluation of approximately 60 student employees including Operations Leads, Member Services Assistants, and Operations Supervisors
  • Oversee front desk operations including patron access, guest pass and membership sales
  • Create resource guides, procedural manuals, and other tools for employee reference
  • Collaborate across department program areas to ensure staff maintain current and accurate knowledge of programs, services, facility hours, events, and policies
  • Maintain sports equipment inventory and make recommendations for purchases
  • Conduct facility inspections and communicate maintenance or custodial needs
  • Assist Assistant Director of Operations with scheduling reservations and events through EMS system
  • Attend and participate in University and Departmental events, programs, and training
  • Provide evening and weekend operational support and event coordination as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 1-2 years of campus recreation and/or wellness experience
  • Current certified in CPR/AED/First AID through the American Red Cross, or able to get certified within 30-days of start date.
  • Ability to work independently on tasks and projects.
  • Be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Display effective communication skills to engage with faculty, staff, students, and the Butler community.
  • Ability to utilize basic office equipment and technology including basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Position Information
  • Pay Scale: $15/hour
  • Hours: 30 hours/week
  • Commitment: 1 year agreement (2+ years contingent upon successful evaluation at the end of 1 year)
