Head Football Coach with possible Assistant Athletic Director Duties

Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible; frequent district-wide travel; frequent state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; possible biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus; must be able to frequently to occasionally lift 25 to 50 pounds; outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Care & Prevention of Athletic Injuries Course
  • General Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Background experience in coaching the sport in a school setting
  • Strong knowledge of the sport’s fundamentals, rules and strategies 
     

 

CONTRACT: 260 Days

 

WORKING HOURS: As necessary

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Athletics and Activities

 

EVALUATED BY: Executive Director of Athletics and Activities

 

SUPERVISES/EVALUATES: Football Assistants and Lower Level Staff

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:

 

  1. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes 

 

  1. Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship

 

  1. Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes

 

  1. Establish proper conditioning and performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis

 

  1. Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities

 

  1. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all OSSAA rules

 

  1. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation

 

  1. Work with Executive Director of Athletics & Activities to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements

 

  1. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program and make changes based on findings

 

  1. Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips

 

  1. Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices

 

  1. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook

 

  1. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation

 

  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers

 

  1. Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials

 

  1. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required

 

  1. Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program

 

  1. Oversee process of cleaning, checkout, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment

 

  1. Submit all needed requests made by the Executive Director of Athletics & Activities

 

  1. Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations

 

  1. Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures

 

  1. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business

 

  1. Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance

 

  1. Build and maintain satisfactory relationships with opponents and officials

 

  1. Promote a positive image of the school District through proper dress and communication with parents, teachers, patrons and all school personnel

 

  1. Other duties as assigned
