JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides vision and leadership in the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and staff development to ensure the District is providing the best educational opportunities for students.
SUPERVISES: Principals, Instructional Specialists, Department and Grade Level Chairs
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leads building principals, department chairs, teachers and subject matter specialists in developing the general philosophy and goals of the District's PK-12 instructional programs
Provides direction, support and mentorship to building principals in the implementation of instructional programs
Supervises and evaluates the work of building principals
Coordinates and evaluates the curricula and instructional programs and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement and innovation
Coordinates new course proposals and course modifications
Participates in planning, distributing and monitoring of instructional budgets
Works with outside educational authorities and regulatory bodies
Formulates and implements professional development activities for teachers and staff which address teaching and learning needs
Participates in professional development activities
Develops a PK-12 instructional program which ensures the vertical and horizontal alignment and articulation of all curriculum areas of the District
Leads and facilitates collaboration among school sites
Leads planning and development of Summer Learning Activities
Leads in the development of assessments, curriculum guides and curriculum mapping
Develops and coordinates new teacher orientation and mentorship activities
Assists in anticipating problems and designing processes and procedures to address them
Develops a District professional development program that assists teachers in the instructional areas, and promotes their understanding of the elements of effective instruction
Coordinates alternative education programs at all grade levels
Leads and oversees the District counseling program
Coordinates all textbook selection committee activities for the District
Develops recommendations concerning learning resources, equipment and facilities requirements for instructional purposes
Stays current on curriculum and instruction trends and research relating to restructuring issues of public education
Compiles student enrollment projections for staffing and budget estimations
Empowers others to make decisions and carry out responsibilities
Prepares reports as necessary for the Superintendent and Board of Education
Attends Board of Education meetings
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises, oversees and manages building principals. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's degree (M.A.) and five years of successful school leadership experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Oklahoma School Superintendent Certification is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
